Back from Huaraz...On to Kawai.

Haylee and some of the kids she worked with while the adults attended their study sessions.

A heated discussion among pastors from a small town in Peru. They have been arguing with each other for quite a while and it continued at the conference.

The view from the third floor of the church in Huaraz. Seeing the snow capped peaks each morning was really amazing.

Thank you for your prayers this week for the Pastor/Church Leader Conference in Huaraz, Peru. Over 300 Peruvian pastors and their families attended this 4 days of intensive training. Ingleside Baptist Church from Macon, Georgia sent an outstanding team of teachers to lead this year's conference. A vast majority of the pastors and church leaders in the area of Huaraz have no formal theological training. These training events meet so many needs.

We are having our REAP Peru, Bolivia and Ecuador team prayer retreat this week. Please pray for us this week as we prepare for a very busy 2009.

Please pray for these folks by name this week...
  • Boots and Katie Holder
  • Larry and Nancy Jackson
  • Brian and Felicia Henderson (in the U.S.)

Prayer Requests for this week...

This is Guillermo as he shares a Bible story during our storying conference on the Tambo river.
Pray for him as he takes God's Word to his Ashaninca people.

Whew. Life is fast here in Peru. Thank you so much for your prayer support! Don't ever think that any second that you spend praying for the people of Peru and for us is wasted. We depend on your prayers to sustain us every day...don't ever stop!

On Monday, January 12, Jeff, Liesa, Haylee and Jackson will be heading up in the Andes to Huaraz, Peru to work with Ingleside Baptist Church from Macon, Georgia as we conduct a conference for pastors. Many of the pastors in the indigenous areas of Peru have no formal theological training so events like this are so important. We are expecting nearly 150 pastors to find their way to Huaraz for this training event. We will also be having a women's conference along with the training for pastors. And, we'll be having a children's camp as well. So, it's a busy week. Please pray.

The next week, on January 19, we'll join together with our team for a retreat where we'll re-focus and re-energize for a very busy 2009 ahead of us. We have much to do and we need God's wisdom and guidance as we coordinate the strategies of the churches in the U.S. who are working with the unreached people groups of Peru. We'll have a week of prayer, training and a lot of fun, too. Please pray for this event as well.

We'll try to update and post some things as internet availability allows. Thank you for your partnership in reaching the people of Peru with the message of Hope.

Other Prayer Requests..
  • Pray for Haylee and Jackson. They are enjoying their 'summer' break (remember the seasons are reverse below the equator!). Please pray for meaningful friendships here in Lima for the both of them.
  • Pray for us to find a good church to get plugged into here in Lima. We have visited several and we need wisdom to make a good decision.
  • Pray for Liesa and Jeff as we try to get up to speed with all of the tasks that we must learn how to do. Right now it's like drinking from a fire hydrant.
  • Pray that our ability to speak Spanish will improve every day.

DAD RETURNS TOMORROW!

Parque de la Amistad - This is a local park
that the kids and Liesa went to while Jeff
was away.

Thank you all so very much for praying for us while Jeff traveled this week. All went very smoothly. Jeff returns tomorrow and we look forward to hearing more about his trip when he returns. During this trip the team taught the people bible stories from the book of Exodus so they can tell others these same stories. Because of their efforts the people will be able to share these bible stories with others long after the missionaries are gone.

Prayer request for this week:
--Jeff and the team traveling back to Lima tomorrow 1/6.
--The team from South Carolina as they return back to the states.
--Pastors Conference next week in Huaraz - The Holeman family has plans to work with this training conference for Peruvian pastors.
--A team from Calhoun City, MS. coming to work in Peru this week.
--Haylee and Jackson's continued adjustment to their new home.
--Liesa's Uncle Charles, struggling with chronic back pain.
