8 July 2014 Update!

Greetings from Oaxaca!

We are so grateful for your prayer support.  Let us share with you some stories of great things happening in southern Mexico:

  • There is another new believer among the SBY people.  We now know of 3 believers in this community of 600 people.
  • Over 50 student volunteers came to Oaxaca during the month of June and were a huge blessing to many people.  These students were able to learn about missions and be a part of 'hands-on' work.
  • The ChoC people and their small struggling church has a strong USA partner coming to serve alongside them as they seek to reach their people.
  • A church from Mississippi was able to strengthen a new church plant with a Parent Conference and three new believers came to know Jesus because of their obedience.
  • The SGM people live in Mexico and in the USA.  We are so thankful for USA partners who are beginning work among these people in Virginia.
  • The ChoS people live in the mountains of southern Mexico.  A church from the USA has committed to being the 'missionary' to this Unreached People Group.  The USA church has had great 'God Moments' as they have lived among their people for several weeks.
  • The ChiO people are very resistant to the Gospel and their community is known as a place of witchcraft.  But, God has called out a USA church from Florida to pray for and love these people.  These people may have an opportunity to hear about Jesus very soon!
  • The Father is working in several communities among the TVZ people.  We are thankful for the national believers who are taking on the task of reaching their people.
  • A church in Georgia has taken on the missionary task among the ChiC people.  These people may finally be able to respond to the Gospel in the near future.
  • The CTM people live in Mexico and in the USA.  A church in California is taking seriously the task of reaching the nations in their community.
While we see the Father at work all around us, there are still overwhelming needs here in southern Mexico that only God can meet.  We're thankful to be a small part in what God is doing and we are thankful that so many of you are a part through your prayer support.  Please keep praying for the people groups listed above and please pray that more workers will make a commitment to training and learning language and that they will come to southern Mexico.

Blessings!

14 June 2014 Update!

Thank you to all who faithfully pray for our family and the great work the Father is doing in southern Mexico.  Your prayers are THE KEY to the work.  We simply cannot express to each of you how much we depend on you to pray faithfully.  Thank You All!

Here are some updated prayer requests:
  • Springdale Baptist Church, Attala County, MS will be with us this week.  Pray for this team as they lead a Parent Conference for a new church plant near the city of Oaxaca.
  • Shindler Drive Baptist Church, Jacksonville, FL is in southern Mexico this week working among the C people.  Pray for this team as they train and encourage church leaders.
  • William and Rachel arrive TODAY (June 14)!  Working with students allows us to multiply the work.  We have a #DreamTeam of student workers this summer.  Please continue to lift up our summer student workers and the ministries they are leading.
  • The Community Church, Oxford, MS sent Ronnie Conner to spend the month of June with us and we're having fun picking on him.  Ronnie has a heart as big as the moon and is a great encourager to our student teams.  We're grateful for him being available to come down and serve Jesus with us.
  • Davinity, Bryce, and Bailey have spent this week working in a village among the CC people.  This has been a challenging assignment because of the intense heat and humidity.  Please continue to pray for the CC people.  Crosspoint Church, Melrose, FL will send their first team to begin their work among this people group in early August.
  • Pray for Natasha and Jennifer as they work in SPN.  They are finding resistance to the Gospel in this community.  Please pray for them as they share stories from God's Word with the family with whom they are living.  Pray for open hearts among the SPN people.
  • Lauren, Michelle, Rachel, William, and Drew are using English as an opportunity to share the Gospel.  Pray for these students to be able to go deep in relationships and to share the love of Christ with those around them.
  • First Baptist Oxford, MS will send a team in the next few days to focus on ministry to indigenous children in a local children's home.  Many of the indigenous communities are not equipped to care for kids from abusive homes and those who have special needs.  Pray for the FBC Oxford team to be able to share hope with these awesome kids!
  • The TVZ people group will be loved on by Central Baptist Wendell, NC next week.  Central Baptist does such a great job with evangelism through sports ministry.  Pray for this team as they come to Oaxaca on June 20.
  • The SBY people group will get a visit from Pillar Church, Stafford, VA next week.  This people group is small (around 800 people) and has just a few known believers (less than 10).  Pray for Pillar Church as they research the best ways to share the Gospel with these people.
  • Urbancrest Baptist, Lebanon, OH is an amazing fellowship with a heart for the CS people.  Pray for their teams who will be spending a lot of time among their people this year.  Another team arrives on June 15.
  • The C people live in Mexico and in Colorado.  Please pray for the East Texas Association of Baptists as they take on the task of sharing the Gospel, training leaders, and planting new churches among this people group.
  • The CC people are waiting for the Gospel.  Please pray for SonRise Baptist, Newnan, GA as they develop a plan to research this people group so they can begin work among them.
  • The SGM people group live in Mexico and in Richmond, VA.  Please pray for Franklin Heights Baptist Church, Rocky Mount, VA as they consider taking on the task of taking the Gospel to this people group.
  • The CTM people group live in Mexico and California.  Pray for Valley Baptist Bakersfield, CA as they share the Gospel with this people group.  Pray for them to find open doors for church planting in southern Mexico.
  • Bethsaida Baptist Church, Philadelphia, MS is preparing to begin work among a people group in southern Mexico.  Will you lift up this fellowship as they prepare?
  • The Piedmont-Okefenokee Baptist Association will be sending a Vision Team in a few weeks to explore options among an unreached people group in southern Mexico.  Please pray for this team as they prepare for the task.
  • Second Baptist, Springfield, MO will be sending a team in early August to take on a variety of ministry tasks in southern Mexico.  Pray for them as they prepare.
Is YOUR CHURCH ready to take on the task of taking the Gospel to an unreached people group?  Click HERE for more info!

1 June 2014 Update!

Greetings from Oxford, Mississippi.

I (Jeff) am here in Oxford for the weekend to officiate the wedding of Bradley and Abby Evans.  It is always such a blessing to be a part of these great times in the lives of our friends.  Bradley and Abby's wedding day was a beautiful day and I (Jeff) am so honored to have been invited to be a part of it all.

Thank you to all of you who pray for our family and the work that is going on in southern Mexico.  It is so good to know that you all are 'holding the rope' for us as we seek to serve the Father.  Your prayers are the most important part of the work!  Please don't ever underestimate your key part in what God is doing.

Some highlights of the past few weeks:

Jackson reached the 15 year mark!  He was able to celebrate in several ways.  The photo to the right is with Heather, Holly, and JD who spent the day with Jackson at a local water park.

Heather, Holly, and JD served with us as a part of the Hands On semester missions program.  They have now returned to the USA but we sure enjoyed having them in Oaxaca for the past four months.

Katherine and Sara will be joining us in August 2014 and will serve during the Fall 2014 semester.

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Many of our summer workers have arrived.  Here are Bailey, Jeff, Sylvia, Rosa, Bryce, and Davinity in one local village.  Our summer workers will be spending time sharing the Gospel and encouraging believers in local villages, teaching English, and some other special projects.

Pray for our summer student team:  Natasha, Jennifer, Bailey, Davinity, Bryce, Lauren, Michelle, Drew, Rachel, and William.

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Katie returned to Oaxaca for a fast two
week visit.  We were blessed to serve with Katie
during the summer of 2013 and we were so thrilled
that she came back to Oaxaca for another visit.
Katie has such a big heart and has made a huge
impact on many lives here.  We can't wait
until she comes back to visit.

Haylee is now a SENIOR IN HIGH SCHOOL!
Unbelievable!

Here is a photo of Haylee and a Captain America Minion celebrating the arrival of 12th grade.  Thanks to Heather and Holly for the best gift ever!

Please pray for Haylee as she makes a decision regarding college.  She graduates from High School in May 2015.

More Prayer Requests:
  • Please pray for the CO people group and Shindler Drive Baptist Church Jacksonville, FL as they work among this group to make disciples.
  • Please pray for the SBY people group and Pillar Church Stafford, VA as they send people from their pews to live among their people.
  • Please pray for the CS people group and Urbancrest Baptist Lebanon, OH as they seek to plant churches among them.
  • Please pray for the CC people group and Crosspoint Church Melrose, FL as they seek to work alongside Mexican believers to share the Gospel and make disciples among their people.

  • Please pray for Springdale Baptist Church Attala County, MS as they come to Oaxaca to help with a new church start near the city of Oaxaca.
  • Please pray for First Baptist Oxford, MS as they come to Oaxaca to work with children from several different communities.  Pray for FBC Oxford as they prepare to come to Oaxaca to train teachers to be better English teachers.
  • Please pray for the SeGM people group and a church from Virginia who are praying about beginning a church planting effort among these people in the USA and Mexico.
  • Please pray for Valley Baptist Church Bakersfield, CA as they work among the STM people group in California and in Mexico with the goal of planting reproducible churches.
  • Please pray for Ellen, Candace, Christy, and Rebecca who will be serving as Journeymen in southern Mexico.  They arrive over the next few months and will serve for at least two years.
Thank you so much for your prayer support and financial support through the Cooperative Program and the Lottie Moon Christmas Offering.

Blessings!

21 April 2014 Update!

Hola Everbody!

Here's some highlights of the past couple of weeks!

Last Tuesday Jeff was able to visit with our friend, Pastor Franco Lopez.  He has been serving the Lord for a long time and planted several churches in southern Mexico. They were able to pray together before Jeff left.  We received word that God called Pastor Franco home last Friday.  We're thankful for the opportunity Jeff had to visit with him one last time on this side of eternity.  Please pray for his family who are grieving the loss of a great servant of God.
-----------------------------------------------------------

Sandi Bridges came back to Oaxaca last week as a part of a Vision Team from her church.  We were blessed to serve with Sandi in Peru and on a couple of occasions in Oaxaca.  Now, she's all grown-up and is a leader of missions mobilization in her church.  We had a great visit to a village in southern Mexico with a small church in need of some encouragement and training.  This village has few believers and there are villages surrounding them with no churches.  We are praying for Sandi and her church as they decide whether or not to come back and take on this task.
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Meeting some great people is a benefit of being a missionary.  Would you add Pastor Hector to your prayer list?  In this photo, Jeff and Hector are sucking down some coconut milk.  Please pray for Hector and his wife, Maria, as they lead a small church in southern Mexico.  Pray that they would be encouraged even during difficult times.  Their village is struggling with unemployment and poverty.  Pray that they will be able to minister to the people in their village.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Your prayers are so important to the work the Father is doing in southern Mexico.  During the month of May will you join us in praying for the people of southern Mexico?  Our cool colleagues, Jeff and Cam Dunson, have put together a website for all of you praying people.  Here is the link:

7 April 2014 Update!

Greetings to all of you out there!

Thank you to all who pray for us.  We are so grateful for the partnership we have with so many back home in the USA and all over the world.  Your prayers are very, very important to what the Father is doing in and through us.  We will never be able to express our gratitude to you all.

We want to pass along a few more prayer requests:

1. Jeff will be traveling with a Vision Team from a Florida next week to investigate opportunities among a people group along the Pacific coast of Oaxaca.  Please pray for open doors for this group and a clear understanding of the Father's plan.

2. Pray for our Spring 2014 Hands On team.  Heather, Holly, Nathan, and John David have about six weeks left with us.  Please pray their final days here will give them opportunities to make an eternal impact.

3. Summer 2014 is quicky approaching and we have a Dream Team of students coming to Oaxaca.  Most of these students have experience with us and are coming back for another opportunity to minister in this great place.  Please pray for Natasha, Jennifer, Davinity, Bailey, Michelle, Courtney, Rachel, Lauren, Bryce, Drew, and William.  We expect some great things from this group!

4. Please continue to pray for more laborers in southern Mexico.  We would love to see more Mexican believers join the work.  We have opportunities for families and singles from USA churches to come and join the work here.  Please pray to the Lord of the Harvest to send more workers.

5. Would you pray for more interpreters for our USA partners?  We need help in this area as we have more and more USA teams coming.  Our USA partners are trying to learn Spanish but we still need some help with interpreters.  This is an urgent need.

Thank you so much for your prayer support and your financial support through the Lottie Moon Christmas Offering and the Cooperative Program!

Blessings!
Jeff, Liesa, Haylee, and Jackson Holeman

1 March 2014 Update!

Hello World!

We're still here in Oaxaca!  Sorry for the delay in updating but things have been a tad bit hairy.  Lots of great things going on and your prayers have been a huge part of that.  Here's some of the highlights:

  • The Father continues to open up some great opportunities among the M people.  This is one of our largest people groups and there are communities among them that have no access to the Gospel.
  • There is a USA fellowship that is working among the CS people.  They have been welcomed by the people in the community but there are still some hoops to jump through with the local government leaders.
  • There is a USA fellowship working among the CO people and they have found a great need to train Christian leaders.  The Father has been working among these people for years and now there is a great opportunity for these small groups of believers to receive training and encouragement.
  • We have discovered several communities of our people groups who are living in different areas of the USA.  Recently an awesome missionary family came on board to lead the effort to begin making contact with these groups.  The nations are coming to the USA!
  • Our teammates are finishing up a story set in the Z language for one of our people groups.  This will allow them to hear stories from the Bible in their heart language.  Jenny and John have worked so hard on this project and now the Z people will have the Bible!
  • The CTM people group lives in Oaxaca and California.  The USA fellowship in California is seeking to plant fellowships in California and Mexico.   What an exciting vision!
Haylee and Jackson are busy with school and social life.  The big news is that their dental hardware has been removed and now we have million dollar smiles from both of them.  Their dental work began in Peru, continued with Dr. Rich Simpson in Flowood, MS and has been completed here in Oaxaca.

Liesa and Jeff have been busy and enjoying the work that the Father allows us to be a part of.  Your prayers are such an important part of what is going on down here in southern Mexico.  We see the results of your prayers every day!

We cannot write without bragging on our First Baptist Oxford folks!  Our home church has stepped up big time this year and given $102,000 to the Lottie Moon Christmas Offering!  Their goal was a lofty $80,000 but they really put a hurting' on that goal.  Our call to missions came through this sweet fellowship of believers who are striving to make a difference from Oxford, MS.  Great work FBC!

Of course, you know we're going to be working with students/young adults wherever we are and this semester is no different!  Nathan, Holly, Heather, and JD (from FBC Oxford!) are working hard and are adjusting to life in Mexico.  They are focused on building relationships and improving their language skills right now and are making amazing progress.  A cool part of all of this is that Sarah (one of our teammates from last semester) came back this semester to help get the 'newbies' headed in the right direction.  We love Sarah!  AND, the Lord has brought us two young Mexican partners who are such a big help and have quickly become a part of our missionary family!

We have another round of training that you can be involved in right there in the comfort of your home!  PartnerConnect On-line Missions Training begins on Thursday, March 6 at 7 pm Mississippi Time.  Click HERE to register for this FREE training.  You may never leave the USA but this training can help you understand how to pray and be a part of sending.  If you are a person who is a 'Missions Go-er' then this training will be invaluable.  So sign up and be a part!

And, if you know of some young adults who would like to join our Hands On team during the Fall of 2014 please send them to us.  Click HERE for more information!

Here are some updated prayer requests for you to add to your list!  Thanks for being a part of the team!
  1. Transitions!  Liesa and Jeff have been asked to take on a huge task with the IMB.  Will you pray for wisdom and discernment for them?  Pray for the great team of missionaries that they will be leading in Mexico, Central America, and the Caribbean.
  2. Haylee!  The 'Where to go to college' decision is coming soon.  Will you pray for wisdom for Haylee (and us!) and for the resources to be provided (think scholarships!) for her.
  3. Pray for Nathan, Jd, Heather, and Holly.  They are only here for 120 days and they have a deep desire to be difference makers.  Pray for them to develop relationships, to stay focused, to stay healthy, and to walk daily with Jesus.
  4. Pray for SRBC from Georgia who will be coming on a research trip soon.
  5. Pray for CSBC from South Carolina who will be leading a training for pastors/church leaders in just a few days.  Pray for Randy as he leads this team.
  6. Pray for SDBC from Florida who will be arriving soon to work among their people.
  7. Pray for CPC from Florida who will sending a Vision Team to explore a new area.
  8. Pray for UBC as they send a team to continue building relationships among their people.
  9. Pray for our 2014 Summer Student Team: Bailey, Bryce, Davinity, Drew, Jennifer, Lauren, Michelle, Natasha, and Rachel.  We are super excited about this crew coming to Oaxaca this summer.
  10. Pray for these folks coming down in the next few months to serve in Oaxaca: Ole Miss BSU, Central Baptist (Wendell, NC), Springdale Baptist (Kosciusko, MS), First Baptist (Oxford, MS), Ronnie and Diane Conner (North Oxford Baptist, Oxford, MS).
Thank you for your prayers and your partnership!  Thank you for giving to send us through the Cooperative Program and the Lottie Moon Christmas Offering.

Until they all hear...
Jackson, Haylee, Liesa, and Jeff

3 February 2014 Update!

Greetings from warm and sunny Oaxaca!

We think we actually sweated today while many of you up there in the U S of A are colder than the Denver Bronco's playbook.  Thank you for your prayer support!  Your partnership in prayer is so important to the work going on down here in southern Mexico.

Just to update a little about us:

  • Haylee and Jackson are back in the swing of things at school.  They have a busy semester coming up with school and camp and youth group events.  Please continue to pray for them to grow as followers of Jesus and as young adults.  Pray for Haylee to have wisdom about her college choice.
  • Thank you for praying about our immigration process.  Things are going smoothly and we hope to have things wrapped up soon.  Please continue to pray the government will find favor and grant us residency visas.
  • Our three Hands On Semester workers, John David, Heather, and Holly are headed to Oaxaca today!  Actually, they will spend a few days in Peru and then arrive in Oaxaca on Monday, Feb 10.  Please pray for them and us as we lead them.
  • Jeff and Liesa have taken on a permanent role as Cluster Strategy Leaders.  In English, this means a lot of responsibility for leading the world's greatest team of cross-cultural workers from Mexico to Argentina.  Please pray for wisdom as we seek to lead these great group of folks.
Thank you so much for your prayer support!  And, thank you for giving to the Lottie Moon Christmas Offering and the Cooperative Program.

Until all hear...

Jeff, Liesa, Haylee, and Jackson

18 January 2014 Update!

Dear praying friends,

Your prayers are THE KEY PART of what God is up to with our family.  We experience the power of prayer every day and there are not enough ways to tell you 'Thank You!'.  However, in this little space a few times a month we make an effort to do just that.  And, we try to give you some new things to pray about.

We have had a busy few weeks but that's pretty normal for us.  I was telling a friend the other day how fast life seems to be moving these days.  We have just completed two years in Mexico and we're approaching the completion of 7 years of this adventure as a missionary family.  You all have had a huge part in all of this.  Thank you for 'holding the rope' for us.

We were able to spend a couple of weeks of vacation in Mississippi for Christmas.  It is always a blessing to be able to visit with our friends whom we miss so much.  We never have enough time to see everyone so we must leave some folks waiting until next time.  We are certainly disappointed that we were not able to spend more time in Mississippi.

We are glad to be getting back to 'normal' in Oaxaca.  I (Jeff) am sitting at the Houston, TX airport writing this as I wait on a plane to Oaxaca.  Missions College 2014 is in the books.  Over 120 people received some great training this week to help advance the Gospel to the ends of the earth.  It is such an encouragement to be around REAL LIVE SOUTHERN BAPTISTS who love missions and missionaries.  It was great to be able to spend some time learning from and teaching people from some great churches.

We're getting back in the swing of things.  Here are some prayer requests:

  • Immigration.  January is our month to renew our residency visas.  Please pray for a fast and easy renewal process.  In other words, we're asking you to pray for a miracle!
  • College.  Can you believe it is time for Haylee to begin the process of choosing a college?  Please pray for her (and all of us) as we seek God's place for her during the Fall of 2015.
  • Unreached People Groups.  USA churches will begin planting churches in at least six unreached people groups in southern Mexico during 2014.  Would you pray for these USA churches to have discernment and to be led by the Spirit?
  • Ongoing ministry.  Will you pray for the people groups of CS, CC, CO, CC, MT, CN, ZY, ZTV, and MC?  USA churches are working with these groups to plant churches among them.
  • Holly, Heather, JD, and Sarah will be joining our team for this semester.  Pray for them to have an easy adjustment to life in Oaxaca and that the Gospel will be shared through the relationships that they make.
Thank you for your partnership in prayer and your financial support through the Cooperative Program and the Lottie Moon Christmas Offering.

Until all hear,
Jeff, Liesa, Haylee, and Jackson
